IRVING, Texas (December 2, 2004) – Brink’s Home Security, Inc. announced donation of a security alarm system to help the Tampa Toys for Tots program secure their storage building during the holiday season. The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program has served the Tampa area since 1947.
"As a non-profit program, we rely on donations and volunteers for our success. Each year we count on local volunteers for their time, as well as companies for additional resources. Brink’s Home Security is helping us with free installation and monitoring of a security alarm system that meets our needs for the 45-day period we’ll be storing and distributing toys," said Wayne Tucker, Chairman of the Toys for Tots campaign in Tampa.
Since taking over chairmanship of the program in 1967, Tucker said distribution of gifts has grown from 1,200 gifts to 600 needy children that year to three gifts for each of 165,000 children in 2003. The children last year also received stocking stuffers, he said. "We cover a lot of territory with this program. Last year we were able to provide toys throughout the Tampa Bay area, from Brooksville in the north to the southern counties of Polk and Sarasota," Tucker said.
"Each year we search the community for a willing donor to let us have the use of a facility for the two months we need to collect, sort and distribute toys to the needy children of the Tampa Bay area. This year, we were fortunate that First Financial Realty Trust allowed us to use their facility," Tucker added.
In the past, the program was able to use the Marine Corps training center on Gandy Blvd. "After 9/11, we were forced to go out to the community for warehouse space, which meant we also needed security for the building. Brink’s was able to help us fill the security need," Tucker continued.
